Americans celebrate Christmas Day on December 25th. For Christians, Christmas is a day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. To many Americans, Christmas is a season of sharing. The Christmas season is one of the busiest social, religious, and shopping seasons of the year. Stores are filled with customers who buy Christmas presents, food, and decorations. Christmas cards are sent to friends and family across the country and around the world to wish them a “Merry Christmas.” Schools hold festive concerts and plays like the famous Nutcracker ballet. Churches recreate the story of the birth of Jesus through Christmas pageants. Groups of Americans also travel from house to house to sing Christmas carols to their neighbors during Christmastime. On Christmas Day, children awake hoping to find presents in their stockings and under the decorated Christmas tree. Many children believe that if they’re good throughout the year, Santa Claus will bring them gifts on Christmas morning. However, some naughty children may find that Santa has left a lump of coal in their stockings. Throughout the country, Christians attend religious services on Christmas. Most people enjoy a festive Christmas dinner with their friends and family on this special day.
